Gift For Life’s annual party raises $225K to fight AIDS
Gift for Life, the gift and home industries’ sole charitable organization, announced that its 26th annual Party for Life raised more than $225,000 for AIDS treatment and prevention. The annual event, which benefits DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, raised record funds at its event in New York City on Monday, Feb. 5.
The Party for Life featured tasty food, multiple bars and a short program followed by live entertainment. In addition to networking, guests also competed for a wide array of silent auction prizes including luxury experiences and unique gift and home décor products donated by 30-plus leading suppliers.
Trevor Cohen of Giftcraft was presented with the Chuck Yancy Lifetime Achievement Award, honoring his commitment to the industry, his company’s innovative designs, and his generosity. A special tribute also was given to the late Dr. Matilde Krim for her influence and guidance for Gift For Life’s founding in 1992 and her inspiration over the years. “The 26th Party for Life was one for the record books,” said George Kacic, Gift for Life’s chair. “We raised more money and had a fantastic event in a new location with hundreds of guests. A huge thank you to all of our supporters!”
Gift for Life was founded by Peter Schauben of Appleman Schauben in 1992 in response to the tragic loss of industry lives to AIDS. The organization’s first meeting at the National Stationery Show brought together a cross-section of the industry’s leading publishers, market centers, sales reps, manufacturers and retailers — all willing to convene and work together towards a common goal. Since that time, Gift for Life has raised more than $5 million for AIDS research, education, treatment and care through nationwide at-market events, cause marketing programs and direct donations. In 2008, Gift for Life selected DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, one of the largest funders of HIV/AIDS service and education programs in the U.S., as its sole charity partner and beneficiary. In 2015, DIFFA National granted more than $250,000 to nearly 20 organizations providing treatment, education, prevention and advocacy.
