Gift for Life celebrates industry’s gift of giving

In 2003, Gift for Life presented its first “Bert Tonkin Gift of Giving Award,” a distinction which recognizes philanthropic industry endeavors and sustained self-less efforts for industry benefit. The current COVID-19 pandemic has brought out the best in so many members of our industry.

We’re proud to share highlights with you, starting today with some of the ways Gift For Life’s Board members are making a difference – whether in their individual communities or for our industry at large.

41 Madison #TableTogether campaign helps NYC restaurants. For each post in April, 41 Madison purchases a gift card from neighborhood restaurants. Each person who posts, registers and attends the next New York Tabletop Market in October will receive a gift card.

DIFFA #DiningforDIFFA creates community while sheltering at home. Gift for Life beneficiary DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) is challenging designers to share new at-home dining inspirations, like living room floor picnics!

Doug Self of J. Douglas helps feed Atlanta’s neediest. Doug volunteers to pack groceries with Intown Collaborative Ministries in Atlanta, which feeds homeless people and families in need.

Gifts & Decorative Accessories Together We Retail “care” packages bring joy. The first 50 retailers who register will receive packages of free samples from magazine advertisers.

Great American Media Services Show Us Your Shop program shares good news. GAMS retail publications (Gift Shop, Stationery Trends, Museums & More) morphed its existing social media program into “Share Your Story.” Buyers and suppliers are invited to submit information about how they are coping, and helping during the COVID-19 crisis.

International Market Centers (IMC) Free ShopZio B2B platform provides digital sales opportunities. Exhibitors in IMC markets in Atlanta, High Point and Las Vegas can join this ecommerce platform, enabling sales while markets are disrupted.

NY NOW offers COVID support and resources. In addition to its “Share.Support.Spend” compilation of COVID-related resources, an 11-part “Stand up 4 Retail” webinar series helps retailers succeed despite current obstacles.

Paddywax helps retailer customers. Through its “Support Local” campaign, Paddywax will credit the wholesale cost from direct-to-consumer online purchases to the retail store where consumers would normally shop.

Sheila Charton of Springboard Futures helps coordinate NYC food bank operations. Sheila works with the Hunter College NYC Food Policy Office to maintain a database of food services, homeless shelters, immigration centers throughout all NYC neighborhoods.

Springboard Futures offers free trend information. The forecasting firm’s inaugural Style & Trend Reports are available to the industry at no charge.
