Director of Product Development & Gifts Iffat Khan

What is your retail background?

My first retail career move was with Target Corporation as the head designer for product design and development. I worked with major manufacturers from around the world to launch brands that were exclusive to Target for domestics. From Target, I was recruited by Sears Holding Group as Design Director for Sears, Kmart and Ty Pennington and then by Zara as head of project design for Zara Home. My background has been a whirlwind and a blessing all in one because I have had the opportunity to work with world-class designers and artists whom I have learned so much from.

What is the most fulfilling part of your job?

The most fulfilling part of my job is to work with innovative and talented people at Roman Inc. Working hard and working smart is what they strive for on a daily basis.

Is there a product from your career you’re most proud of?

There are several products and projects that I have developed in my career that I am proud of but I would say the most rewarding was working with Zara Home for décor and gifts and Target on Field Crest. What I loved about both of these projects was that I was able to bring luxury and make it affordable. There was a flare of excitement and fashion in both of these brands.

What tips would you offer wholesalers about selling products, whether Roman or just retail sales in general?

I have been in this industry for more than 16 years and I have had the opportunity to work for manufactures, importers and retailers. In all cases I would say that staying true to your customers is the best thing you can do for your company and your growth. I stay ahead of fashion and trends. I stay on top of innovation and creativity but all within sight of my customers needs.
